The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has announced that the replacement of deteriorating expansion joints on the Kara–Berger Bridge along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway will commence on Tuesday, September 8, and continue until Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The agency disclosed this in a traffic advisory issued on Saturday, noting that the rehabilitation exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and other relevant stakeholders following the directive of the Minister of Works.
According to TRACE, the project is aimed at restoring the structural integrity of the bridge, enhancing road safety and ensuring smoother vehicular movement along one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
The agency stated that lane restrictions and intermittent traffic delays are expected throughout the two-week construction period, particularly during peak travel hours, as measures are put in place to provide a safe working environment for contractors.
To mitigate traffic congestion and maintain order, TRACE said personnel from relevant traffic management and security agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders, would be deployed to regulate traffic and ensure the safety of motorists.
The agency advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead and make adequate provision for additional travel time during the rehabilitation period.
Road users were also urged to comply with temporary traffic signs, road markings and directives issued by traffic management officials, reduce speed when approaching the construction zone, and avoid unnecessary stopping or picking up passengers within the restricted area.
TRACE further warned motorists against driving against traffic or using unauthorised diversion routes, stressing that strict compliance with traffic regulations would help minimise congestion and ensure the successful completion of the project.
The agency appealed to members of the public to remain patient, disciplined and cooperative throughout the duration of the repairs, describing the temporary inconvenience as necessary to guarantee the safety and long-term durability of the bridge.
TRACE assured motorists that it would continue to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Works, contractors and other relevant agencies to minimise disruptions and maintain the free flow of traffic as much as possible.
The agency also pledged to provide regular updates on traffic conditions and the progress of the rehabilitation work, while expressing appreciation to motorists for their understanding and cooperation.
