The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has organised a one-day in-house training programme for its lower and middle-level officers as part of efforts to strengthen ethical standards, enhance professionalism and improve service delivery across the agency. The colloquium, held at the Nuga Events Centre on Oba Erinwole Road in Sagamu, brought together officers from the Remo Divisions under the Ogun East Zonal Command. According to the agency, the initiative is the first of its kind for officers within the category and was designed to promote ethical conduct, behavioural conformity and a stronger institutional image.
Delivering the keynote lecture, the Most Senior TRACE Commander, Mr. Omonayajo Elias, who was represented by the agency’s Director of Administration and Supply, Alhaji Abubakar Adeduntan, took participants through the provisions of the newly reviewed Public Service Rules.
Adeduntan highlighted key areas including career progression, transfer and redeployment within the civil service, the consequences of accepting gratification, insubordination and other regulations guiding the conduct of public servants.
He urged officers to remain selfless, disciplined, humane and accountable in the discharge of their duties, stressing that integrity and professionalism remain essential to effective public service.
In another presentation titled “officer’s Behaviour and How It Affects the Agency’s Public Image,” the Ogun East Zonal Commander, Cmdr. Ogbu Moses, encouraged participants to demonstrate professionalism, confidence and sound judgement during operational assignments.
He noted that TRACE, since its establishment 21 years ago, has built a strong reputation both within Nigeria and internationally, urging officers to safeguard the image of the Ogun State Government and the agency through exemplary conduct.
Ogbu warned that any officer found engaging in extortion or other criminal practices capable of tarnishing the image of the government or the agency would face appropriate disciplinary sanctions.
Other facilitators at the training included the Director of Specialised Training, Cmdr. Filani Morolake, and the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Cmdr. Abudu Wasiu, who jointly delivered lectures on ethical challenges in traffic law enforcement and the importance of professionalism in operational duties.
Speaking at the closing session, the TRACE Area Commander overseeing the Interchange, Sagamu, Sotubo and Ogijo Commands, Cmdr. Adesanya Adesegun, commended the Ogun State Government, the agency’s leadership and management team for initiating the capacity-building programme.
He said the training had significantly enhanced the ethical awareness, professional competence and operational capabilities of participating officers, expressing confidence that the knowledge acquired would translate into improved public service.
Certificates of participation were presented to all officers who successfully completed the one-day training programme.
