TRACE Ogun Central organized a major public sensitisation programme for stakeholders in the road transport sector. The programme attracted a large turnout of participants who gathered to enhance their knowledge of road safety, deliberations on critical traffic-related issues and promotes initiatives, aimed at protecting lives and properties on our roads.The sensitisation programme was designed to Educate, Remind and Realign stakeholders on best road safety practices. It forms part of TRACE’s continuous efforts to reduce Road Traffic Crashes and minimise the loss of Lives and Property on roads across Ogun State.
The programme brought together a broad spectrum of Stakeholders from Enforcement, Security and Transport Sectors. These included sister agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and Amotekun Corps. Transport Unions were also well represented, including NURTW, RTEAN, ROMO, AMORAN, ACCOMORAN, The AKMODE (Hausa Motorcycle Union) and other related groups.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Commander Sonde Olubori, Ph.D.
In his remarks, he conveyed the goodwill message of the Ag.TRACE Commander/CEO, Commander Omonayajo E. A., and emphasized the Importance of Continuous Stakeholders’ engagement in promoting road safety. He stressed that Road Safety and Management is a shared responsibilities and reaffirmed TRACE commitment to fostering collaboration among all Stakeholders in the Transport Sector.
The forum provided an avenue for meaningful dialogue/deliberations on practical measures to improve Road Safety. Discussions, centred on Crash Prevention Strategies, Discipline among Road Users, and enhanced cooperation between Enforcement Agencies and Transport Unions.
Participants actively contributed with their perspectives and received clarifications on various Road Safety Issues.
During the sensitisation, Participants were strongly advised against dangerous driving habits. Particular emphasis was placed on the dangers of driving under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Smoking while driving, Excessive speed, Reckless driving, and the use of mobile phones while driving. Stakeholders were encouraged to adopt responsible road-use behaviours in order to safeguard lives and properties. Proper guidance and defensive driving techniques, especially during this raining Season.
The programme reinforced the message that Road Safety is a Collective Responsibility. It further strengthened Collaborations among relevant Agencies and renewed the commitment of Transport Unions and other Stakeholders to support TRACE Mandate of reducing road Traffic Crashes and ensuring safer Roads throughout Ogun State.
With the strong indication, that the sensitisation would positively changed the Motoring Public and their driving behavioural Patterns.
Consequently, stem the accident rate, reshaping and redirecting the graphical line from upward right hand into the sloppy downward of the accident graph of our dear State, with it great impact transcends to the country at large.
