Severe traffic congestion is currently being experienced along both the inbound and outbound sections of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, particularly around the Sinoma/El-Dorado–Ibafo axis, following the multiple road traffic crash that occurred on the outbound roadway yesterday.

The crash, which occurred along the outbound roadway at Sinowa, has resulted in a major obstruction to the free flow of traffic. The situation has been further compounded by impatient motorists attempting to leave their designated lane and cross into the opposite section of the expressway, route violation, (inbound Lagos), in an attempt to navigate around the obstruction.

This indiscriminate movement and encroachment into the opposite roadway have consequently affected traffic flow in both directions, resulting in severe gridlock.

Presently, traffic congestion is still building up from the Interchange axis towards Lagos on the inbound roadway, while the outbound roadway towards Ibadan is also experiencing significant traffic build-up as a result of the incident and the consequent disruption to normal traffic movement.

Consequently, motorists travelling along the corridor and still held up in traffic are advised to exercise patience, avoid driving against traffic, refrain from lane indiscipline and strictly adhere to the directives of traffic management personnel (TRACE, FRSC, POLICE) deployed to the affected areas, as they strive to normalise traffic flow.

Moreover, motorists are also advised to consider the following alternative routes where practicable and allow sufficient travel time, as efforts continue towards restoring normal traffic flow on both roadways.

✓ Old Lagos-Sango-Ifo-Ewekoro-Abeojuta Expressway

✓Sagamu-Sotubo-Ogijo-Ikorodu Expressway

✓ Ijebu-Ode-Epe Expressway.
